Ticonderoga, NY

Hi everyone! I landed here in Ticonderoga yesterday, on the 4th of July. Got a hotel for two nights so I could take a rest day today. Went to the laundromat first and then to see the historic fort this morning, and now this afternoon I’ll be catching up on eating, nap taking, reading, maybe a trip to Walmart, and, of course, eating some more.
Riding across the Adirondacks was a bit easier than I expected it to be. There were only two ascents which left me dripping in sweat. The biggest problem with the mountains has been the biting flies they have up here. While I’m toiling away at 4 mph going up a long hill, they have a field day with me. It’s very difficult not to swat at them, but at slow speed with a loaded bike, I need both hands on the handlebars at all times.
Tomorrow I’ll start in on the Green Mountains. I’ve got about 400 miles left until I get to Maine, so about 7 days or so of riding left. Wish me luck!
